Smile
read below
You stretch the corners of your lips sideways and slightly raise them upward.

What does it mean?
1. It reflects a positive emotional state — joy, sympathy, friendliness.
In Russian communication, the smile is mainly directed at people one knows. It is appropriate when meeting close people, in company, in moments of joy, relaxation, and lightness of spirit. In Russia, a smile is not considered a universal sign of politeness, as in some Western cultures. It should be meaningful and have a reason. It is not customary to smile at strangers, while performing official duties, or in serious or responsible situations. Excessive smiling can be perceived as a sign of foolishness or hypocrisy.
Gesture Phases & Execution
  • Preparation: The face is relaxed. The corners of the lips move upward and outward due to a slight contraction of the zygomatic muscles. The eyes narrow, and "crow's feet" form near the outer corners of the eyes.
  • Stroke: The corners of the mouth are raised upward and drawn outward. The upper lip is lifted, exposing the upper teeth, or the lips may remain closed (depending on the intensity of the gesture). The lower eyelids are raised, and the skin at the outer corners of the eyes is gathered into folds.
  • Retraction: The corners of the lips move downward. The eyelids return to a neutral position. The wrinkles around the eyes smooth out. The facial muscles relax.
